Founded in 1891 in the Silver Valley of northern Idaho, Hecla Mining Company is recognized as one of the oldest precious metals mining companies still in operation in the United States and is the country's largest silver producer. The company is headquartered in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, with additional offices in Vancouver, British Columbia. Hecla's product line includes silver, gold, lead, and zinc concentrates, which are shipped to various smelters. The company operates two main business units for financial reporting purposes: the Greens Creek mine in Alaska and the Lucky Friday mine in Idaho. Both mines are located within the United States, which Hecla views as minimizing political and economic risks compared to coal mines in other parts of the world. Additionally, Hecla holds exploration interests in historically successful mining regions in the U.S. and Mexico, areas noted for their relatively low political and economic risk.
